SCC put forth an inspired effort as they topped North Platte 80-76 on a special afternoon at the Truman Center on Saturday, Feb. 11.
Southeast suffered the loss of one of their own last summer, when Assistant Coach Kaye Schlake lost her battle with breast cancer.
It was a back and forth battle throughout the game with both teams trading buckets and changing leads regularly. But it was the 4th quarter when SCC went on a 11-0 run, jump-started by a Sebit Gatlauk three-pointer that put the Lady Storm ahead 64-62. The run also featured a Goracke trey that powered the team to a 72-62 lead. SCC then held Lady Knights at arm's length the rest of the game and Southeast improved to 3-0 in the conference.
Both teams had a hard time handling the ball, SCC turned it over 23 times and North Platte committed 22 turnovers in the game.
SCC held the advantage in shooting, as they 42 percent while North Platte managed 37. DeAsia Walker led her team with 21 points and seven rebounds. Goracke had 17, and Gatlauk added 12. The Lady Knights were led by Nahatabaa Narcona and Naria Hall, who each added 19 points.
The Lady Storm improved their record to 9-16 on the season.
