Storm Fall to DMACC 87-53 in Women's Home Opener

Des Moines Area Community College used a suffocating 4th quarter, to bury short-handed SCC in a 87-53 in their home opener on Nov. 3.

SCC was without starting guard Madison Hajek, and struggled with consistancy running the offense against the Bears.

It was a competitive 1st quarter for Southeast, They finished the quarter on an 8-2 run to trail 20-15.

Thanks to strong play from sophomores Emily Zvolanek and Morgan Frauendorfer, SCC hung around in the 2nd quarter as well. They went into the halftime break trailing by seven at 35-28.

However it was all Bears after that. Emma Rouse got hot for DEMACC in the 2nd half, hitting 5-9 from three and scoring 19 points. SCC ran out gas defensively and Des Moines ran away with the game, spoiling SCC's season debut.

Zvolonek provided a spark for Southeast, and she was a force both on the boards and the floor. She finished with 19 points, and hauled down 12 rebounds for a double/double. Frauendorfer turned in a solid performance as well, adding 16 points and five steals.

It didn't get any easier for Southeast in their next game, as they got walloped  at nationally ranked Johnson County 69-25 on Nov.6. The Lady Storm were frigid from the field, hitting just 15 percent on their shots. Morgan Frauendorfer was the lone bright spot for SCC. She accumlated 14 of the team's 25 points, and went 5-6 from the free throw line.

KK Jackson Morris led Johnson County with 17 points.

Southeast falls to 0-2 on the season. They travel to Hastings JV on Tuesday, Nov. 13 before returning home to host Elsworth on the Wednesday, Nov. 14.
